CBD comes from the Cannabis sativa plant. It is one of the two highly researched Cannabinoids of the Cannabis plant, i.e., CBD and THC. CBD changed people’s lives by alleviating disorders like anxiety, chronic pain, PTSD, osteoarthritis, etc. Scientists reported it to be equally beneficial for human beings and pets.
A common misconception is that CBD can’t harm the body because it is an organic product. The point to understand is that all products coming from natural sources are also made up of different chemicals and substances. Although most of these chemicals don’t pose a danger to the body, in some cases, they can be harmful too.
Is CBD safe?
Scientists have confirmed that CBD is safe and generally doesn’t negatively impact the body. The World Health Organization published a CBD-related report in 2018. This report confirmed that CBD is a potentially safe product and its side-effects are manageable.
Side-effects refer to any undesired change in the functioning of the body because of a certain product. We can categorize side-effects as positive and negative side-effects. Generally, when we are talking about the side-effects, we are referring to the negative ones since positive side-effects are just the bonus.
Factors affecting the safety of the CBD:
CBD is generally safe, but a few factors might combine to give rise to certain side-effects. These factors include excessive dosage and its combination with other ingredients that react to make it harmful. Keep in mind that health specialists prohibit CBD consumption under specific health conditions.
Another comforting prospect regarding CBD is that even if the side-effects pop up, they are mild.
Short-term and Long-term Side-effects of CBD:
In the case of irresponsible consumption of CBD, you can observe certain side-effects. These side-effects may either appear shortly or show up in the long run. You can somehow associate the long-term side-effects with the previously experienced short-term side effects. That being said, we will discuss a few of these side-effects in the following section.
· Short-term side-effects:
The short-term side effects account for all the undesired effects of CBD that arise as soon as CBD gets in the body. These side-effects usually stay along with the CBD. When the body CBD wears off, its side-effects also disappear.
These side-effects include:
- Xerostomia (Dry mouth).
- Skin rash.
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Decreased appetite.
- Diarrhea.
- Fatigue.
- Low blood pressure, i.e., below 110/80 mmHg
If a person regularly consumes the CBD, these short-term side-effects form the base for the long-term side effects to persist.
· Long-term Side Effects:
There are very few side-effects reported because of the consistent improper use of CBD. These side-effects don’t develop immediately, as discussed earlier. They not only develop over time but also take a long time to disappear. Some of these long-term side-effects of CBD are:
- Change in weight; it might be because of the decreased appetite and diarrhea that are the short-term side-effects.
- The liver function gets impaired.
- The person might feel week and tired, possibly because of the low energy and BP.
Conclusion:
Health experts consider CBD to be a safe product. But the irresponsible use of anything can make you face the music. It would be best to consider your prescription and preventive measures before consuming CBD to ensure safety.
